The Transnational Leader
As we talked about this book on Friday it made me think about what our educational system might look like in the future and what role I might play in it. Will the traditional setting be non-existent? How will it be more global? Lots of questions. The best thing about it is we (cohort 4) and the degree we will receive will put us right in middle of this transition, some of us leading the way. Any thoughts?

I also have many questions, but am so glad that we are educational leaders during this critical time. We are leaders of change and innovation, and to effectively lead, we need to embrace the world and the cultures around us. It is our responsibiity to learn something from each person with whom we come in contact.
I agree Beth. We need to not only respect the differences, but embrace the differences of all.
I still don't know what this may look like. As I listened to your presentation about the Transnational Leader, i kept trying to get a visual of what this may look like. I think we will have to overcome many challenges and barriers in order to make a smooth transition. As I was reading Sergiovanni's "Rethinking Leadership," there was a part in there that stood out, "Cultural leadership can provide principals with the kind of levers to manipulate others that are more powerful than levers associated with bureaucratic and psychological authority (p. 30)." To be a transnational leader at some point you are going to have to cross cultural paths. It is the way we deal with the different cultures in my opinion that will make us successful transnational leaders for the future or not.
I am in agreement with you. I believe that leaders in a 21st Century global society must be flexible and able to embrace the multiple cultures and ideals that may be very different from what they have become comfortable with in a traditional education settings. The wider the variety of views and viewpoints brought to the table, the more creative the ideas become during collaborations between groups and cultures. This should bring about new and innovative ways of solving new and complexed problems facing the next generation.
Beth, you do an excellent job of expressing your thoughts. Today's leaders are better equipped when they are open to change. Love, caring, and intergrity are very important ingredients for a great leader.
