I think it is important for leaders to see the big picture. As a teacher I practiced the Backward Design model. I determined what I wanted to accomplish then developed a plan to get there. It starts with a clear vision.
I completely agree with you. You can't design a path to achieving something without knowing what it is you want to achieve in the end. Backward design is a wonderful method.
This method of planning is great for all aspects of life even. When thinking about next steps, I go immediately to where I want to end up and then I work my way back to my current status. Sometimes some of my intermediate steps don't work out and I have to adjust but at least I think that they will lead me to the end I desire.
I am reminded of the saying, "It doesn't matter which road you take if you don't know where you are going." Another: "Hitch your wagon to a star." That is what Cohort 4 has done.

I agree. Backwards planning in crucial for administrators as well. Especially when planning and building/maintaining the campus vision.
