Leaders today must be designers. Leaders have to be creative, think outside the box, and add meaning to this world. In education this means anything from the appearance of your school, types of programs your school offers to students, teachers, and parents, and even creating a bell schedule that maximizes learning.

You can't wait for change to happen. In order to be a transnational leader, you are going to have to lead the way with change.....I agree completely with what you are saying!!!
This is certainly true Jason, and often we don't give ourselves enough credit for how creative we actually are! I hear from so many educators who say they just aren't creative --- and then they go on to do AMAZING things at their schools. Being creative doesn't just mean that you can put together a beautiful bulletin board. Creativity can manifest itself in many ways, just as you have described.
Creating by definition is dreaming of new horizons and finding ways to get there. I am in awe of all of the creative educational colleagues I have had the privilege to know and work with who could see beyond the present to a better world and build the bridge to bring people there.
Jason, I agree with your observations totally. We must be very purposeful about how we lead. We must look at each aspect of our school to see who are the right people and/or programs that will advance the culture of learning on our campuses. Design is so key to harnessing the ideas and creative thinking we bring to the table as leaders.
Jason, you are right on. Keep the charge.
To design, you have to be able to create something new or improve something. As leaders I do believe that we our designers. designers of organizations, of programs, of success. But in order to design, there first needs to be an idea, a mission. From there you can begin to change the landscape.
Jason, I think, sometimes, we feel to be creative means to do something BIG such as overhaul a program, create a completely new curriculum, and so on. Although these things are creative, we also need to remember that we can be creative in small ways. And, sometimes the small, creative changes we make lead to big creative changes and incredible impact.
Don't forget about relationships. Leaders must be able to establish relationships across all spectrums: Parents, students, staff, and community.
